David Oxberry presents a new personal series: ‘The Cutters’

Food packaging and supermarkets are distancing people from the connection between how it’s grown and where it came from in modern society. Mechanisation has changed the face of agriculture for the last 100 or so years but some produce can still only be harvested effectively by hand. Winter vegetables like cauliflowers are still cut by hand, through toughest months of the year in all weathers. This back breaking and dangerous work is now mainly only undertaken by Eastern European workers. The methods haven’t changed for hundreds of years, sharp knives and cold fingers make for a perilous occupation.
